The Secret To Survival
Terrance Bridges on July 6, 2025
Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon:
Day 1: Surviving Through God's Word
Psalm 119:105-112
Just as Elijah relied on God's word for direction and sustenance, we too must root ourselves in Scripture to navigate life's challenges. God's word is our spiritual nourishment, our guide through dark times, and our source of strength when we feel weak. Today, reflect on how you can situate your life to hear God's word more clearly. Are there distractions you need to eliminate? Habits you need to cultivate? Remember, a life attuned to God's word is a life equipped to survive and thrive in any circumstance.
Day 2: Trust in God's Leadership
Proverbs 3:5-6
The widow of Zarephath demonstrated remarkable faith by trusting in God's provision through Elijah, even when facing dire circumstances. Sometimes, God's direction may seem counterintuitive or even impossible, but His ways are higher than ours. Today, consider an area of your life where you're struggling to trust God's leadership. What would it look like to fully surrender that area to Him? Remember, when we trust in God's guidance, He makes our paths straight, even through the wilderness of uncertainty.
Day 3: Maximizing What You Have
Mark 6:30-44
The story of Jesus feeding the 5000 echoes the miracle of provision we see with Elijah and the widow. God doesn't always give us everything we think we need, but He always empowers us to do miraculous things with what we have. Today, take inventory of your resources - not just material possessions, but also your talents, relationships, and opportunities. How might God be calling you to use these for His glory? Remember, in God's hands, even our smallest offerings can become abundant blessings for others.
Day 4: Perseverance in Faith
James 1:2-12
The widow continued to pour out her meager supplies, trusting in God's promise of provision. This act of continual faith mirrors our own journey of perseverance. In times of trial, it's tempting to give up, but God calls us to keep "pouring out" in faith. Today, reflect on a challenge you're facing. How can you continue to act in faith, even when you don't see immediate results? Remember, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope.
Day 5: God's Presence in Suffering
Romans 8:35-39
The sermon reminded us that even in our darkest moments - in famine, in loss, in near-death experiences - God is present and working for our good. Nothing can separate us from His love. Today, meditate on a time when you felt God's presence in the midst of suffering. How did that experience shape your faith? If you're currently in a season of hardship, invite God's comforting presence into your pain. Remember, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us, and we will survive and thrive through His unfailing love.
